R600 will be DirectX 10.1?

Further speculation has recently surfaced in regards to ATI's upcoming R600 series GPU (their answer to NV's G80). Apparently its been discovered that this monster will in fact natively support Microsoft's upcoming DirectX 10.1 (due sometime during Q2 next yr).
Its also been made clear that DX 10.1 will carry a few notable enhancements over that of the embedded DX10 in Windows Vista, such as better multi-core support and an optimized API.

woooooooo, and my toilet spins counter-clockwise. I'm better than all of the southern hemisphere. (i don't know here that came from) I smell possible BIOS flash for the nvidia cards if this 10.1 is worth a crap. ATI just needs the AMD execs. to kick them in the ass, so they quit missing their schedules, rather than relying on press like this to carry them through. |

DirectX 10 is sooooo last year. These days it's ALL about DX 10.1 It's not like DX10 doesn't exist yet or anything. Might as well start planning to get that 2160p HDTV now! |

Pimping 10.1 before we even get or hand on 10.0? Now that just plain sad. I like ATI, but their hype machine really needs to stop this kind of BS. How about just releasing the R600 instead of changing it right before Vista is scheduled for release? |

Who said ATi changed anything... Nvidia has done this EXACT same thing in the past. SM2.0 vs SM3.0 anyone? There will be no bios flash...nvidia cards may very well support DX10.1, it just may not be announced yet. If anything, it will be added in a driver release. |

But, SM 3.0, didn't come BEFORE SM 2.0. I mean, comeon !! We don't even have DX10, yet, or at least an OS + a game to play on. And heres ATI already talking about 10.1. Madness. Do ATI, really believe this is good for the PC if they keep playing these stupid one-upmanships with nvidia ? I get the feeling that, either they don't have the hardware to match the G80, and they were completely taken off guard by it. So, they'll use DX10.1 purely for marketing purposes, knowing they have a slower card. Or, it's a monster, and they'll use to it to bury the G80. Either way, this is NOT good for the PC. People will get pissed off forking out for a G80, only to find it's been outgunned a few months later by R600. Then, we'll get nvidia releasing the 8900, with DX10.1, faster than R600, and not long after G80. ATI's 8500, didn't sell because of PS 1.4, as it got stomped by GF3, and GF4, and no developer took a chance with 1.4. Oh well, just have to see what happens. |

LOL, what are they suppose to do? Stop competing? SM3.0 was a feature that was thrown out there long before anyone was really willing to utilize it, same thing with PS1.4, if Microsoft sees fit to issue a new version of DX10 to add features they think are missing, thats their perogative. If you actually read the base article you will see that this stuff isn't exactly specific ATi only features. If you honestly believe that competitively driving GPU technology is bad maybe you should follow something a little less racey, lets say, sound cards. If companies don't compete, they die. If they don't innovate and introduce new features, they die. Unless they're a monopoly, after buying out all the real competition. These companies push their technological edge to their advantage, if you don't like it, you're free to not read about any of it. |

>>LOL, what are they suppose to do? Stop competing? How about simply RELEASING a product on time, rather than trying to up nvidia. >>SM3.0 was a feature that was thrown out there long before anyone was really willing to utilize it It wasn't thrown out BEFORE SM 2.0, which was part of my point. >>if Microsoft sees fit to issue a new version of DX10 to add features they think are missing, thats their perogative. Yes, and maybe 6 months from now. But NOT before even the consumer version of Vista has even shipped, for crying out loud. Talk about putting people off of Vista, especially with all the negative press. >>If you actually read the base article you will see that this stuff isn't exactly specific ATi only features. Do you have any proof that ATI was NOT involved ? >>If you honestly believe that competitively driving GPU technology is bad maybe you should follow something a little less racey, lets say, sound cards. Thats ridiculous. Are you actually READING the article ? DX10.1, BEFORE we even have DX10. No wonder everyone's running to consoles. >>If companies don't compete, they die. Noone is actually suggesting ATI stop competing, just release a DX10 card, and get something on the market. >>If they don't innovate and introduce new features, they die. I was under the impression that DX10, IS new, with NEW features. |

funny , some1 tell this guy that there is enough time till 29th Jan when R600 gets it's public show (day prior Vista) ... and what's wrong on hardware developer to support "upcoming" standard ... if 10.1 specs are finalized (to give time for manufactureres to get ready) then nothing prevent's them release 10.1 compliant product ... but so far, there was no word from ATI if R600 is 10.0, 10.1 or w/e else |
