QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install QuickTime Player from Apple. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.

They are legal. Nice being able to play Real Player files without installing the actual Real Player.

I would say that QT/Real Alternative are NOT legal judging by the files that are installed.

They both install files that are copyrighted and require a license to use by Apple and RealMedia. They seem to be the exact same files as in the retail ($) versions.

If the authors of the Alternatives pay a licence fee is anybody's guess. Seems doubtful since the programs are free.

As to whether Apple or RealMedia give a hoot? They obviously know about these programs but so far choose not to take legal action.

How can it be legal when you install QT Alternative, and you got a free QT Pro key!?

same for the codec pack, some has cracked DivX Pro codec...

We are removing both today. Quicktime Alternative is being packed with a serial code for the Pro version. While most of us only need the free version, this makes it illegal beyond a doubt.

There were a few versions where they stopped including a QT Pro Serial with QT alternative but it seems to be back in again now. I don't know about all the using files without permission etc, but that's pretty illegal ;)

It's legal as long as they're just giving you the codecs. The Pro actually has additional features (they they have it install with a pro serial), so this item is a little shady, no matter how useful and nice it might be.
