Direct quote from the latest PSM, an Nvidia spokesman is quoted with: "The GeForce 7800 is almost identical to the RSX, the rsx is only slightly less powerful."

I recall the XBox and GameCube essentially having graphics cards that equated to what was out for the PC at the time. Because the console is ONLY playing games, I don't see how this matters anyway. Even running in HD mode, that's less than the resolution a typical PC runs a game at...and a 7800 will run almost anything screamingly fast with the details cranked at 1280X1024. This means very little. |

The PS3 is supposebly going to use dual 1080p. I don't see why they wouldn't use all 1920x1080 pixels. Plus, look at the hardware powering today's consoles. It seems like a 32mb GPU would never run Metal Gear Solid 3, yet it does beautifully on PS2. One of the reasons is because the console has less things to worry about besides games. To put it in perspective, I'd say the PS2 is graphically equivalent to a... 8500LE. In comparison, something as powerful as a GF 7800 in a console would be beyond what it is in a PC. R500 is well beyond R520, is it not? |

Can't believe a forum post that has no links and later in the thread is discredited as false get to headline. Bad W2S BAD! |

...waiting for all the PC fanboys who think that a console being less powerful then a PC automatically makes the console inferior... |

Its not about that (for me anyway), its just that sony was claiming that it would be more than two times as fast as any PC card out there.. Just like they claim their processor is in the super computer class. Which is a joke, shame on sony. Power isnt everything, its how you use it. |

Perhaps you didn't see that the "news" this post links to is fake? Besides, Cell IS super-computer class. There isn't a single supercomputer in existence that has a more powerful processor in it than the Cell chip. At least for single-precision FP calculations. :-P DP, I'm a little unsure, but as Cell manages around 33Gflop (which still is A LOT), it should still be amongst the top runners, if not THE top runner. |

PCs will obviously take the lead fairly quickly... however games will be way after what will be availble on consoles for a long long time. Taking a look at how it was for the Xbox and PS2 at the time of their release games just look great. They were optimized for the hardware, running and looking as best the machines could make it. The PC has so many problems with differances in hardware etc. which hinders it from maxing out like the consoles do. Consoles do have that advantage, it's quite an advantage too. That and the price of course. I still prefer PC gaming though for some reason. |

A specialized piece of hardware doesnt need to be technically the equal of a "jack of all trades" part. Its much easier to optimise a specialized part. Concerning the link, there must be a general lack of reading comprehension from the source and the sites which quoted it. The "quote" he was commenting on meant the exact opposite of what he took it to mean. The quote meant that the RSX is more powerful than the 7800 which was clear to me the moment I read it, but took the thread several pages to come to this conclusion. The thread originator edited his comments once he realised he was wrong but didnt leave a link to the post on the 8 or 9th page which corrected him. |
