The North American launch of Sony's much-anticipated PlayStation 3 could be delayed until next year, according to a research report issued by Merrill Lynch.
In the report(Click here for PDF) , the analyst firm proposed the idea that high costs and Sony's decision to use an "ambitious new processor architecture--the Cell" is making it look like the company might not be able to meet its goal of getting the PS 3 out in the U.S. this year. News.Com

Wow, it could have been smart thinking on Microsofts part to rush out the Xbox360, then deal with the issues with some consoles later. Also Sony felt the pressure to release the greatest console and it could bite them in the rear end. To top that off, Sony got a bad name over the DRM protection. All in all, I prodict rough times for Sony for the next few years. |

I've got to say, the xBox 360 has been the strangest console launch ever. It's "out" and it's been out. Although I can't go to the store and buy one. I remember the first shipment. I remember the second shipment. Has there been a third? The xBox wasn't this way. What happened and where are all the 360's? |

I've seen 'em in the store recently. It's really been the same as the PS2 from what I've seen. It sold out quickly and during the holiday season nbody could get one. Since mid-January, I've seen more and more in stores. As for the PS3's delay...it sucks, but better to delay it and do it right than to release it pre-maturely. I still think Blu-Ray's really slow start is the cause. It's not needed or really wanted right now. It's not worth taking the fat losses it would take to force it out the door this year. |
