PC411 a new comptuer resource website!

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 09/04/2002 12:53 AM [ Print | 4 comment(s) ] · 1858 views

A new computer resource site called PC411 has been opened some time ago. However, there are not yet many users, but this is normal for a new forum and we are patient. "We are currently in a big advertising phase, which should get us up and running. We just need to let people know we exists" said the administrator, also CEO of Reliexec, a network of small companies, which PC411 is a part of. However, you must not get mixed up with PC411 telephone directory! That's not what we are, we are a computer resource site. We love to put lots of essence on friendlyness. This makes it easyer to speak freely and not worry about flame wars.

There's not much content yet, but as people write articles and other resources, we will grow. "Watching a plant grow can be boring, but being that plant and being in control is a lot more fun" said Admin Ryan Auclair. Come and join us now at http://www.reliexec.dynu.net/pcfouroneone/. - And be welcomed!

Someone needs a lesson in HTML, and in spelling ;)

easyer = easier
We just need to let people know we exists = exist
friendlyness = friendliness
comptuer = computer

Yes, I would like to take computer advice from an outfit that is running their entire operations on a home DSL connection running on Windows 98.

Apparently they have been unable to upgrade to Windows 2000 or Linux. Get a clue.

Bandwidth is not something to be concerned of at this moment. From most locations tested, this page loads instantly when there is not too many users on at once. Of course, flash is a different story...

And for spelling, the only thing I CAN do, is switch it to a French site... Bonjour et bienvenue au forum PC411!" but most audience is English.

And I was happy to be able to have a successful install on a 486, which runs very slowly - how do you expect windows 2000 to work on a Pentium? And anyways, it turned out the motherboard was faulty. A new server is coming in soon. Actually, maybe tonight if not during the week end. So sit tight, and pretty soon you won't be able to tell if I'm doing a movie render, as it will be back to the separated server method which was very reliable. If things work out, we might fire up a linux router/firewall and make sure no one gets in, but we take security seriously even though it's a win98 powered server. Note to self: do anything to block port 139, which is the worse security issue in all windows Os's, windows 2000 is worse, it turns netbios with root access on by default, that could be dangerous... ouch, it hurts just thinking of how easily a whole server could be wiped clean if that setting was forgotten.

We've been given bad publicity lately, but hey, it's a new site, hardly any content yet, things will get better and keep getting even better then better (is that clear? :) ).

Most people that do put my sites down or me, probably did not type in my name in google to see how they don't mind me.... (shows that they are canadian! Kindness!).

Rant.Close(); //closing "statement" :)

A lot of people have been taking PC411 very negatively for some od reason, most of them said our old layout was bad, I found it was ok, but changed it anyway and now I find it looks way better myself! I have also invited an entire forum to join (it got hacked ...long story) so we might get lot of users, but it's hard to tell whether they got the invitation or not due to the fact that I could not publicly say it, as the site is down, but if they accessed my ***** server, they did see the note.

So if not enough users is another reason for negativeness, don't be one of the users we lack of - come and join now!

We are also hosted on a new server - a windows 2000 server. We found out what stopped us from installing win2k on the other WAS in fact the motherboard.

Just thought I'd post an update here instead of submitting more news.

I have the victims of last year's horrible attack, in my mind, well you can't miss it if you check the site that's for sure. I feel so sorry for all the loss on that day.
