P4 Alderwood @ 3.6GHz

Gamers Depot checks out Intel's 925p/915p Chipsets and P4 3.6GHz / 3.4GHz EEP Processors in their lastest review!

The 925p and 915p chipsets are nearly identical with the exception of Integrated Graphics. As you?ll see in our round of benchmarks, the performance delta between the two is negligible at best. The short of the story here, for both chipsets, is support for DDR2, PCI Express with x16 Graphics, Intel High Definition Audio, four Serial ATA ports, Intel?s Matrix RAID technology and native 802.11g Wireless Ethernet.

Two CPUs are launching on the 775 socket, a Pentium 4 "560" @ 3.6GHz which uses a Prescott core and a 3.4GHz P4 EE on a 90-nanometer process. Each chip ran great in our benchmarks and would make a formidable solution for any gamer. The first rounds of DDR2 memory have quite a bit higher latencies than DDR PC3200 does which means the performance isn?t as good as it will be later down the road for Intel?s latest platform. Recently, Corsair released its PC3200 DDR at CL2, while the DDR2 samples we have are at CL4. DDR2 does look as if it?ll be readily available as we?ve already received working samples from Kingston and Micron ? we?ve seen news from Kingston that they?ll have it available in CAS 3 soon. However, even at CL3, we?re not convinced it?ll be enough of a performance gain to place this new architecture securely at the top of the hardware food-chain.
