Overclocking the Athlon XP-M 2400+ Processor @ ClubOC

When it comes to distinguishing the real overclocking websites out there, ClubOC tries hard to stay in touch with the latest and greatest hardware roaming the internet. Whether if its rev 1.2 motherboards, or the newest line of modules and where to get them, you can count on us to try our hardest to procure the latest rage. On a more personal level being a hardware reviewer has its merits and sometimes its just nice to get an email from one of our viewers. About two weeks ago I got an email from a friend I've known for at least three years or more, stating that he knew where to get unlocked AMD CPU's for next to nothing that would do incredible speeds. He backed this up with a few screenshots of his own AMD hitting over 2.6Ghz using nothing more than a good air-cooling arrangement, and lots of voltage adjustments.

This is nothing special, my 2600+ (266 fsb) Thouroughbred B can run these speeds with lower voltages on AIR. |

Hi all, I just put my new 2500+ Mobile CPU through its paces and..... Its absolutely identical in performance to my multiplier locked 2500+ Barton. I mean absolutely identical. Results in every test were the same, failed at same points, works at exactly the same speeds and gives exactly the same temps as I was getting too. I cant get any higher overclock despite knocking the multiplier down (in case high FSB was the problem), which tells me I should get my water cooler finished! So, from what I have found with these 2 CPU's, they are the same. Apart from the multiplier lock and the colour Everyones experience could be different I grant that. I also tentatively suspect you have more chance of getting a non good overclocker if you buy the Normal 2500+ Barton. The Mobile CPU's must run at stock speeds at lower voltage, so it seems they are cherry picked. Dont let that put you off getting a normal multiplier locked Barton. I havent heard a bad tale of a 2500+ recently. For those that dont know how easy it is to clock a normal 2500+ to 3200+::: Get a NForce2 400 or 400 Ultra board. (I use Abit or Asus these days) Get good DDR400 (PC3200) Ram. (I use Crucial.) Use a known good cooler for 3200+ chips. Plug in, change FSB from 166 to 200MHz (also written as 333 to 400MHz DDR) Voila !!! (its a good idea on NForce2 boards running 400FSB to change the largest Ram timing to 11, seems to help NForce2 boards a lot and u can clock the Ram higher/set timings faster! See reports round the web for more info, I have verified this.) If it fails to run stable, bump the CPU Volts from the default 1.65V to 1.7V, as long as you havent got crap ram, a crap cooler and you dont live in an oven, this will work. In most cases, you can push the cpu much further still. (Neck rests on the chopping block) Grin |
