Optware to Launch the First 200GB HVD Disc in 2006

Japanese Optware announced that the first generation of its Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) technology that enables DVD-sized discs to store up to 1T byte of data (1Gbit/sec data transfer) will be available in the U.S market next summer.

Yay! Now with MS (and others) jumping on the HD-DVD bandwagon we'll have a 3rd format thrown into the mix. I smell a messy standards war. |

This one's NOT for the public until 2008 at earliest. And the consumer version will be ~50Gb. The first HVD player/burner will cost $230,000 and each media will cost $750. |
