Omega Nvidia Drivers Development At Risk

Posted by: NewsFactory on: 06/27/2003 01:23 PM [ Print | 8 comment(s) ] · 3160 views

I got to say there's some sad peeps at Nvidia. Now over to Zardon from Driver Heaven...

Alot has been going on behind the scenes recently guys with Nvidia regarding Omegas drivers and it looks like Omega might be forced to stop making them. This is due to Nvidia's hard handed tactics and not wanting anyone to alter or touch their driver code in any way. Omega has even had to remove Nvidia logos from his site or legal action will be taken. This could possibly if taken further close these sites, so we really have no option.

Im sorry for the bad news, but unfortunately it looks like Nvidia Omega drivers will no longer be developed.

You can also check out what Terry Makedon, Senior Software Manager at ATI had to say here.

nvidia are pissing me off more and more with every action they take... they longer care for investing in their hardware line but instead use all sorts of dirty tricks to promote their products

Oh well. It has been in NVIDIA's license agreement forever that you can't alter their driver code in any way.

ATI has the same stipulation in their license agreement, and they should change that if they're going to allow altering of their drivers to continue

Well, Omega doesn't reverse-engeneering or change structurally anything within the files.
He doesn't HACK/CRACK files, he just adds some tweaks here and there ;)

Now I am pissed off.
They produce inferior cards - I was holding to see if they would improve.
Then they doctored the benchmarks and made themselves look real stupid.
They have taken the fun out of their drivers - I used to look forward to each update in case it was faster, not these days, there doesnt seem to be much more they can get out of the cards.
Now they wont even allow others to give us the performance and video tweaks they need.

If this turns out to be right, I have truly lost my faith in them. I'll be buying ATI from now on.
Sod you NVidia.
