Nvidia Statement To Driver Heaven

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 07/19/2003 02:12 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ] · 3271 views

We have been informed by Zardon that Nvidia is obviously trying to regain some ground with the community. They started a beta program with nForcersHQ, discussed their driver policy with [H]ardOCP and are now volunteering to work with DriverHeaven: Recently I was contacted by Nvidia via telephone and they wish to work with Driverheaven regarding drivers and other issues, I will be detailing more about this shortly, but they wanted to make this initial statement to our members.

NVIDIA STATEMENT

There has been alot of discussion recently regarding 'Omega drivers', much of which is based on conjecture or on personal opinion. Although we cannot discuss the situation in detail, we do want to provide some clarification to NVIDIA's position on 3rd party developed drivers. We do, as active members of the 3D community, understand the need and popularity of 3rd party drivers but we have been reluctantly forced into taking this action. However this action is limited to a single occurrence and does not represent a company policy as to future thrid party drivers.

After reports of instability stemming from the third party drivers, we requested the drivers be removed from the website distributing them. The fact that this was being reported to us at NVIDIA implied that the drivers were not clearly marked as non NVIDIA and non official drivers and users were understandably upset that we were not taking action with respect to these drivers.

Only the drivers which users had complained about were asked to be removed from the website and we also asked for our logo to be removed to ensure that end users were not confused as to the origin of the drivers and subsequently the risk involved with using them.

NVIDIA does not, in any way, condemn the development of third party drivers; quite the opposite. We recognize the importance of third party drivers and for this reason we have not asked for work on the specific driver to cease. Our action is intended solely to ensure that the origin of the driver is clearly stated and the end user is made fully aware of the risks they take installing them. Nvidia: Driverheaven upcoming Q&A, ask them YOUR questions

The first part of Nvidia working with Driverheaven is coming in the form of a Q&A, and with their recent announcement detailing the fact they wont be stopping Omegadrive developing future sets this can only be seen as a good thing.

I have alot of questions ready of my own, but I dont feel its fair just for me to ask so as always im opening up the questions to our members. I would appreciate if the questions could be kept at a mature level, on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from drivers to hardware...... anything NV related.

I hope this new Nvidia policy of working WITH us, can and will continue, it is sure to enhance the quality of this site.

Maybe if nvidia had made its position clear at the time people wouldnt have assumed the worst. But who can blame anyone for doing that?? Hopefully if the 44.90 drivers do indeed have less cheats in them then it will be a sign that nvidia are changing their very arrogant and childish position !

Interesting choice-o-sites to use to "make the peace" with. Knowing DH & Zardon as well as I do I know they don't fall for pretty talk and that they're pretty uncorruptible over there. (Honest, they're straight-shooters over there behind the scenes too....one of the coolest places I ever worked and I still love 'em to pieces! :D )

I think this might actually be ("shock!") sincere!

If I remember correctly Omega had it in LARGE RED LETTERING that the drivers were NOT official Nvidia drivers and DO NOT contact Nvidia for support with the drivers.

The day when NVidia ADMITS they used obscure tactics in 3Dmark03 is the day I'll start trusting them again.

Nothing to do with the Bench, nor ATI, just because of the arrogant way they handled the situation and where they got proven wrong, the strong arm tactics that came after that.

They come to omega and ask nicely to pull his driver tweaks, yet they come to DH in a not so nice way to make them pull out the drivers, and now they want to kiss and make up?
