Nvidia NV38 Debut To Push Back NV40?

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 08/29/2003 04:14 PM [ Print | 15 comment(s) ] · 2304 views

That graphics card manufacturers are going to be showing off products based on Nvidia's upcoming NV36 and NV38 processors late next month is a sign that they aren't going to release boards based on the next-generation NV40 part any time soon.

So speculates Xbit Labs. It believes board makers will demo NV38 and NV36-based boards at Computex Taipei, rescheduled from last June to the penultimate week of September after the SARS outbreak.

The chips' official launch will come in October and November - roughly six months after the GeForce FX 5600 and 5900 were launched - and in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas gift-buying period.

The NV38 is believed to succeed the 5900, the NV36 the 5600. Third-party roadmaps we saw recently didn't mention the NV38, but listed the NV40, Nvidia's first high-end chip to offer PCI Express support, as the follow-up to the GeForce FX 5900 - aka the NV35 - with a second-half of 2003 release window.

Such broad timeframes shouldn't be taken too seriously, and it's entirely possible Nvidia has shunted the NV40 back to make the most of the AGP 8x market before PCI Express starts to come in and tempt hard-core gamers and graphics professionals. Essentially, NV38 appears be a higher-clockable version of the NV35, and would fill the gap before the arrival of the NV40 nicely.

Whatever its precise spec., the availability timeframe of the NV38 means that card makers are unlikely to want to follow it with another high-end chip, the NV40, as soon as older roadmaps suggest it will become available. That, plus Nvidia's preferred six-month upgrade cycle, suggests to Xbit Labs that NV40-based products won't appear for some time yet, and possibly around the time everyone was expected the PCI Express-only NV45.

Again, the timetables are broad, and leave Nvidia plenty of room to adjust release schedules the better to deal with what ATI offers in the meantime and market trends such as the uptake (or not) of PCI Express. ®

Maybe some1 there is actually trying to run the company into the ground!!! LOL!!! Next we'll be reading about a mass suicide (Jim Jones style) at the Nvidia headquarters where the last thing any1 heard was (DRINK THE WINE!!! DRINK THE WINE!!! THEY'LL BE HERE WITH FLAME THROWERS!!! IN A FEW SECONDS YOU'LL FEEL DROWSY!! LYE DOWN GO TO SLEEP!! SLEEP FOREVER!!!) & only 1 or 2 employees escaped with there life! These are exciting times my friends. LOL!!!!

Can't take it but can dish it out eh Devourer? Poor little boy, run along home now.

Video card enthusiasts can rise above this ridiculousness that spews out of your mouth.

Where did you get nVidia self destructing from?

Where do I get that Nvidia is self destructing? The entire FX line is a good start.. Driver "optimizations" that reduce image quality to gain higher scores in benchmarks. Attacking an individual who has for years tweaked there drivers for the community.. Losing the Xbox2 contract.. Need I go on? & Jaybo.. I can take it as well as dish it out.. It was humor.. You 2 should both try taking the Nvidia c0cks outta your asses & learn to laugh even when its about something you may happen to take soooooooo serious... I am gonna guess you 2 own a FX card... I thought ever since day 1 of Nvidia that they were king of the graphics card market.. But this has to be the biggest blackest year in the history of Nvidia & I personally am not seeing it getting any better anytime soon.. Any1 that wants to argue that Nvidia is still king in the graphics card market & hasn't looked like complete fools for the past year clearly has there head up there ass... As I am guessing you 2 do & would.

OH!!! it just occurred to me that you 2 jackoffs probably don't even know who Jim Jones was & that as far as I know I made a direct quote from what Jim Jones said that actually caused a mass suicide in Jones town.... But like I said.. That may be to much history for you 2.

LOL!!! well thats no surprise & I never said they were going outta business.. Like I said.. I personally liked Nvidia ever since day 1.. But there is no arguing the fact that they have had the worst year ever for graphics cards in there entire history.. As mush as I would like to see them rule again it doesn't look as if its gonna happen any time soon......... Btw.. That link doesn't really say much good about Nvidia.. Its mostly just a reasurance for Nvidia!! LOL!!! Any1 that expects 1 year to totally ruin Nvidia doesn't know much.. I haven't seen any1 saying they will be outta business in "3, 6, or 12 months" Market share may be good but I think thats cuz they built it up for many years prior too this 1. & clearly this year has been a roller coaster of screw-ups by Nvidia.. Anyway... If your a Nvidia fanboy, fine.. If you didn't like my joke fine as well.. I am guessing you didn't get it more than it would offend a fanboy though..

actually it makes sense.. plus this info is just 3rd party speculations.. you can hardly blame nvidia anything. you could say the same with ATi's R260 - R420 situation.

Truth is that theres no economic reason to spew graphics cards out every other day. each one DO cost $200+ million to develop afterall (and thats just the entry amount for DX9 compliant cards).

so please stop the lameass rants

EC... its a well know fact that you have no sense of humor at least that I have ever seen here.. But i'll try & remember what you said when I see you spewing off.. For the record... It wasn't a rant.. It was a JOKE!!!! I find the entire Nvidia situation extremely humorous... Looking forward to more blowups.... > :) Like I actually expect the entire company of Nvidia to commit mass suicide.. & if you don't know who Jim Jones was.. Look it up.. Jesus!!! Why am I even trying to explain anything to you dipshits.. Think what you like.

how can it be a blowup, and this incident doesnt have anything to do with the nvidia 'situation' this is just speculations by some random hardware site.

im completely with you when you say they have been flushing themselves down the toilet, this news just hasnt got anything to do with that.
Its not like nvidia has said 'umm nv40 will be out at the xx december' or anything and cant keep up with their promises. i hope they learned a bit from the nv30 scandal

I dont find this situation nvidia is in particularly funny. Ok they made a mistake with the design of the FX, but only because the R3x0 i so very good. If ATI had launched a card in their usual fashion the FX would look better.
What i f DO find funny is the reaction of the nvidia lovers. They're blind to reality. It would be much more sensible to accept the FX is no match for the Radeon and wait for the NV40, if buying an ATI card is really that much of a problem for them that is.

I realize its speculation but there has been a lot of that lately & its pretty much all come to pass.. If this does happen to come to pass then I think Nvidia is just making themselves look bad yet again (like 3dfx couldn't back up there last claims with actual product & we know what happened to them).. I have nothing against Nvidia.. I have said it in this thread.. I personally am shocked at this past years events from Nvidia & am only trying to make light of a bad situation by exaggerating it so seemingly ridiculous that what I said would happen, would seem impossible.. The joke is that it actually has happened & I was sorta comparing Jim Jones to Mr. Nvidia himself who's name escapes me.. Its like Hansung or something.. He's oriental or at least I think his last name is.. Was totally a joke that went way over ever1s head I am guessing..

Ooh! Ooh! Guess what? I own a 9700! YOU Devourer, ass with a mouth, are WRONG. My goodness, you are so WRONG, very very WRONG. Sorry, you lose, I win.
