NVIDIA Hints at SLI Chipset Plans

Just spotted this bit of Info over at the TechReport
Amid the hubbub over the introduction of the GeForce 6600 line and the GeForce 6600GT's ability to work in an SLI configuration, folks from NVIDIA were dropping hints like mad at Quakecon about the company's plans for its next-gen Athlon 64 chipset with PCI Express support. NVIDIA is obviously working on a north bridge chip that will allow dual PCI Express graphics slots, and the company is confidently predicting SLI performance markedly superior to the dual Xeon-based motherboards that are powering the first SLI demo systems.

I hope they hurry up. I am about to buy a new AMD mainboard and CPU. If I could get my hands on an SLI board, I could simply get another 6800 too and could play farcry and doom3 with max AF and AA at 1600x1200 |

Yeah, compared to the VIA boards I've dealt with, the Nvidia boards are 100X better. Throw in the SLI feature and you've got a pretty kick-ass option...although maybe a pricy option depending on wheter the current SLI speeds will match the next-gen single board chips. Still, it's cool they went with this idea. Right now I'm in a WHOLE other direction (Intel and ATI) but it's always nice to have more options when it becomes upgrade time. |

Agreed. Im using Intel right now, but seeing all the benchmarks where AMD 64s dominate makes me wanna switch back to AMD once again. |
