Nvidia Developed NV18?

I saw this @ NVmax and this is what they said:
According to Darkcrow NVIDIA has developed a new chipset based on the NV17 core. This should be released with the new product range in Autumn and will include AGP 8X and IEEE1394. Another email stated the NV17 will not be DirectX 8 spec. Could NVIDIA really be hanging onto the DirectX 7 technology even with the all the negative comments on the GeForce 4 MX??
