Nvidia Detonator Drivers v30.20 Tested!

Just saw this @Theinquirer.net:
WE HAVE NOW HAD TIME TO TEST the performance on the 30.20 "buggette" we reported here last week. Nvidia really got its skates on on this one and sent us an updated driver within 36 hours from our original story.
The updated driver appears to deliver 500+ 3dmarks compared to 28.32 and that difference with and without the splash screen is quite small.
If you run each test 3 times it's 50 to 100 points different which is also not that significant, at least according to Nvidia.

Should have added one more word, or at least one more letter to this story. 666 more? Is this a wicked story? ROFLOL Oh, I agree with the other poster. Where's the download? |

there is no download link and they never claimed to have one. If you people were older than teenagers, you would understand such things as NDA, and 'trust' and 'respect'. Nvidia gave the drivers to them to test and write a mini-report about, not to release to the public. |

Ok, fine. So.. no download link? Now why would Nvidia ask for a review of drivers that the public may never see? Methinks that's a violation of your basic beta-testing NDA... Unless they have a *special* Partial-NDA, also known as the nya-nya-nda.. (look what we got!) Anyway, you got a little something on yer nose mate.. |

Oh, I'm sorry, but abiding by respect is asking a little too much.....it's not like they charge money for driver updates..... It's called respect man, and the problem with the community is that nobody has any....you people are the reason why companies want to start charging for things....if people had just a tad more respect, then maybe things would be better between the companies that provide the services and the consumers who use them. |

And it's not like this didn't happen before...they did this with 20.80 a whole month before they released it...actualy maybe even longer than that... |

Respect poor product security control? No can do. Most people shelled out some hard earned cash for the nvidia-chipset hardware. Each newer and better driver has proved to be a performance pinata that nvidia's partners carelessly let us take a swing at. Would I take a turn w/the stick? Hell yeah! Maybe I get some of that new Det5 candy, maybe I'm reinstalling windows.. I'll take that chance for more zoom in games. You are correct, they aren't charging for drivers. If they did though, and chose to follow in the footsteps of that unnamable scanner company, I will no longer use and recommend their products. They did well to unify the driver sets and it's in the company's best interest to continue the support and further optimizing of this unified driver. Unlike ahem.. ati.. my nvidia investment has enjoyed a better lifespan through the entire windows family upgrades. I still use riva128's and tnt cards. They have a good reputation and while the odd poor-performing drivers simetimes leak, I and many others will always risk a try of anything they put out. Remember also, not all leaks are accidents. Scuse the beer-clouded logic, just closed on a new house today. I'm finally getting the hell out of Maryland! |

yes..i agree...baltimore isn't the most healthy place to live in........but u won't miss KML? shit..heh.... anyways....The fact is that there is a level of trust bestowed onto this larger sites. Want to know what happened to the last guy that illegally dealt with leaks? Just ask m3dzone.com.... Ask any major website operator, if they were given pre-released anything from any company, they would certainly follow every rule the company told them. |

Yeah, z-man's site used to be a regular read for me, but when the bios files dried up and he's playing catchup in the news dept all the time I've looked elsewhere. Reactor used to be hot, but so much peek a boo w/their site I gave up trying to follow that one too. Anyway, in all my travels, I've watched common sense get trounced soundly time and again.. Waiting for some slipup with the UT Performance Test now.. That 3dmark has become waaaay to boring and Quake3 was banned from my box for looking to cartoonish when it came out... But then again, it could be worse.. I could be in Germany.. |

Why is it that you think I am a teenager? I am much older than that. But what harm was it to ask for the link to the drivers? I mean it was just a question, not a demand. Sheesh.... |

well if there's no link in the article what's the point of ASKING for a link? if they're the ony people that claim to have them, and the only ones that have this review, there's no link, so why would there be? |

I wanted to see the driver too, but digging a little it seems Nvidia sent them to the Inquirer site for the sole purpose of trying to get them to shut up about the problem in previous drivers... heh. Not for passing around, just press damage control. I should have done this homework earlier.. d'oh! |
