Earlier NVIDIA held a Financial Analysts Session at Credit Suisses? First Boston Semiconductor & Capital Equipment Conference, and as is often the case a few details could be gleaned on their upcoming parts. When asked of the high end refreshes for both Spring and Fall NVIDIA's Vice President of Investor Relations and Communications, Michael Hara had this to say:

I'm not sure if this even news at all since most of us already knew that over a year ago.

There is no need for nvidia to enhance their card greatly since nvidia's last year technology will remain the latest GPU technology for at least another year when SM4.0 is made available.

ATI of course is still a generation behind and has to play catch up and that's why there is really no need for nvidia to release a new GPU anytime soon... and also the reason why nvidia didn't release a X850 challenger.

Nvidia had it now all for almost a year: SM3.0, FP16 HDR, OpenEXR and 3Dc support. What could they offer more?

Well, FP16 HDR on nV4x make games crawl.
SM3.0 didn't give nVidia that HUGE speed and image quality boost the PR representatives were talking about and the 6800UEE is still slower than its competitor. How many games support SM3? 5?
3DC with nV40 via hardware? No.

3DC is ATi developed tech and nvidia havent implemented it.

They have but only in software. Nevertheless the 3Dc normal map format can be used on nvidia cards since many months with exactly the same quality as with Radeon X800 cards...

They have the technology, the only thing left to do is speed increases which should by much easier than adding new technology to the chip. That was my point I was trying to make before.

An SC:CT is perfectly playable at 1280x960 with FP16 HDR on my 6800U.

Makes games crawl... depends on what you define by crawling. 30-40fps at highres is in my eyes not crawling.

Considering 3Dc, yes it is useable on nvidia cards since September-October last year. No image quality restriction whatsoever.

SM 3.0 - How many games take advantage of this? Five?

While I have to give nV credit for being first to support this in HDW, this feature has in NO WAY lived up to nV's hype. You can criticize ATI all you like, but being first with this technology was not all that. Not to mention that some developers/publishers got off the SM 3.0 bandwagon for their 2005 titles (EA Games and EA Sports to name two).

FP16 HDR - How many games support this feature? Less than a handful? Just like above, I give credit to nV for being first, but the net result is just that...not a dramatic impact on games TODAY.

OpenEXR - As above.

3Dc - Not supported in nVidia hardware.

I have owned a 6800 Ultra and played a few games using SM3.0. I also played those same games on an X800. The differences were minimal at best. To the average gamer, there is little to no difference. Technological advances are great, but they are of little value until they are able to be enjoyed by the mass market. Only then will technologies like these have a true IMPACT on our games and the IHV's revenue streams.
