NV38 seals Nvidia's coffin

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 10/04/2003 08:36 PM [ Print | 28 comment(s) ] · 11686 views

Just spotted this piece of news over at Gearbox Software's forum.

Nvidia's NV38 (along with the rest of the FX series) has been dubbed as a substandard card by team dx. This means that DX will not include NV in it's developement range for directx10. Team DX made the decision "as a favor to the graphics industry". Team DX claims that NV violated their partnership agreement by changing the DX9 code with their latest set of drivers as caught by Xbit labs recently. This violates the licensing agreement and conpromises DX's quality in order to make it seem as if ATi and NV cards alike display the same image quality (which would be really bad in this case).

This can only be fixed by reinstalling dx9b. So by all means, Do Not Download Detonator 50 Drivers!!! Along with this, NV has been caught cheating on benchmarks as they usually do over at Anandtech . Notice that all of the realworld benchmarks perform better on ATi, yet all synthetic benchmarks perform better by a large margin on NV hardware. "These violations are inexcusable" said a DX employee, and I'd have to agree. So without the inside drive on DX10, NV will not be able to even optimize their cards as ATi can and will probably fall into bankruptsy just as 3dfx did before them...

After the latest controversy surrounding nVidia with the cheating and so forth, I have become a large proponent of ATi. I have had numerous nVidia cards since the TNT, and before that a Voodoo 1. I am now running a 9700 pro and am very happy. Anyways, I have followed the industry news for 3D acceleration for years and years now and I have to say that the post by Spectre on the Gearbox forums is complete BS. First of all, he concludes the post with a sweeping generalization about nVidia's future, which is obviously not going to happen. Also, there is no way that nVidia would not have access to DX10 specs before its availability; hell they probably already do have the specs. Perhaps they will be penalized by having less input on how the spec moves forward, but there's no way in hell that they wouldn't be able to design a card around the spec. Anyways, I really feel that this news article should be removed from w2s so that people do not have to read the ridiculously stupid post on the Gearbox forums.

Having checked the gearbox forum those claims are completely un-sourced, what’s the point in reporting the say-so of one forum member. For the record I have a 9700pro in my PC.

Yes, and Aliens landed in Milwakuee today. They had hot dogs and talked to the children before continuing their trip to mars. Local civilians have reported that they where nice and friendly, although one of them sounded like he was from arizona.

Uhm, you do realize this is complete and utter rubbish that was rather badly written up by a fanboy...don't you?

Don't you mean "just spotted this on the neowin forum". Seriously newsfactory, give credit where credit is due. You always seem to "spot" things on the originating site after other sites report about it or write about it in the forums. I can't really recall the last time you credited someone or some site for your postings.

I've found NewsFactory to be one of the better peeps about crediting what he finds as well as he can, and I was reading this fud yesterday on Rage3D, nVnews, & B3D's forums so it ain't like Neowin had an exclusive on it.

It was ONE poster who made up his own story and then pimped it all over the forums. Kind of like what I tend to do, but his was utterly made up and BS from top-to-bottom where as I at least try and make mine sound a bit believable. ;)

"Team DX" Who the hell is Team DX? LOL.

The DirectX Foundation, founded by Microsoft, includes a large range of industry developers from game companies to 3d hardware vendors. You can't just "kick someone out", LOL. That's the largest bit of bullshit I think I've ever heard.

While Nvidia's current line of products aren't exactly the best performing in the world, Nvidia is still very much one of the largest OEMs in terms of chip design, and they have an extremely STRONG say in DirectX 10.

Not to mention, DX10 has already been worked on for quite a few years now with both ATI and Nvidia I'm sure having test designs already long in the works.

Ya and Team Internet Explorer just Announced that they have Removed MicroSoft and Their Window's Operating Systems from further Development of Internet Explorer 7.0 due to Security Holes and Vulnerabilities that have left the internet as a whole a breeding ground for PC based Venereal Diseases. One Team member was Quoted as saying That never before has there been an Operating System that has been Focked so many times by so many different Viruses As Windows has.. When trying to Reach Microsoft Via Web Support Mail for comment on their dismissal. We were Redirected to Verisign's SiteFinder Page as it Seems that They had Been shut Down By Hackers

this is fake news guys. There doesn't exist something like a "Team DX".

You don't need an licensing agreement to build a DX card. It's complete BS.

Team DX? Bwahahahahaha!!! Team BS more like...

I can't believe this utter pile of retarted monkey waste made it to the front page. Somebody spends too much time in fantasy land thinking these things up. Go outside, get some fresh air, and get a 'real' life.

Though judging by the utter failure that the FX series has been so far I wouldn't put it passed the DX foundation to favour ATI in the next release of DX, especially taking into account the XBOX2 deal.

But Team DX, whoever they may be, not including NV in the development of DX10 as a favour to the graphics industry. What a load of bollox...

True or not, the way people are also responding to this NVIDIA story does show how NVIDIA has alienated from their customers.

Nice name by the way.

Well not that I really Give a Shit But lets not forget how ATI used to be back when 3dfx was number one and nvidia was just releasing riva 128 and tnt...
they Refused to disclose clock speeds because they said that the buyer didnt need to know. and you could go pick up 2 boxes of the same item and they would be clocked at different speeds. and back then is when they got their rep for driver quality as well...Nvidia put out a bad product this year... o well ati picked up the slack... name one chipset maker who hasnt done this. it's easy to talk trash on nvidia not that they have not asked for a lot of it but they still have a pretty good record if you look at what they have done in the past compared to what some of the other's have done......

I remember about 8yrs ago maybe all I could think was All I wonder why I bought This Card (all in wonder).... but now it's top of the line.....
nvidia is far from dead they just made some bad moves with their current product.
The Day chipset manufactures dont alienate their customers will be the day windows will be secure and Intel Makes Chipsets For Athlon64's
