New XGI Volari info on Elite Bastards.

Nothing earth-shattering or anything, but I asked my friend there about if their new cards were only going to do 2xAA as earlier reported and he wrote me back not only telling me that they're going to be doing 4xAA FSAA but he also sent me a chart detailing some more of their specs. :)

I posted up the chart at EB, click on Elite Bastards here. (It's a little pimping, but it feels good to have some actual new news that isn't contraversial for a change. ;) )

Digg it! Del.icio.us Technorati Furl Google Bookmarks

...I should have put "SSAA" instead of "FSAA" since they're using SSAA for their FSAA.

I'm trying to get some speed numbers. Probably slower than ATi's, but probably not too much so with their monster bandwidth.

Only 4x AF is a bit of a downer, but this is a FP24 part (?) so reduced image quality shouldnt be an issue (like the radeon) so hopefully the IQ will be good despite the low AF.
I need a reference board...

We received a board, the volari Duo V8 (not ultra), and its fast ! Ok it had some issues but the drivers are very young (hell its not even out)! NDA prevents much in the way of comment, but its faster than some competitors and slower than others (vague or what !)

um quickly... really cant say too much i can only be vague, but its quick. The bandwidth and filrate make sure of that (hint)

I wonder how many people will benefit from it. (and I don't mean users)

That dual card is a MONSTER. I see a lot of people upgrading their case. ;)

It's good that ATI might have some serious competition. I don't know about you but their cards have not gotten as cheap as may expected (thnx to NV scewups).

For example I bought my 9700np in march for around $220 at the cheapest site posted in pricewatch. I still see them around $200...not much of a decrease for what usually is a full product cycle (6-7 months). I guess ATI has not felt really threatened by Cheatzilla 8-)

Now hopefully things might change. Hope XGI succeeds. We will be the real winners of some good competition between ATI and XGI.

I dont think new cases will be needed, the card isnt that big. Its not really much larger than a 5800 and its smaller than a dustbuster edition. Its a bit longer thats all

That's what I mean. I got a normal mid ATX and rgiht now I have trouble dealing with HDs in there with my Radeon and that one is what we might call standard size. I ended installing the HD on top in the first CDrom slot.

Yeah, I know, my case sucks, but so are many, and those will pay the price. 8-)

I figure I can fit my V5 5500 in both my good PCs, think I can fit a V8 Duo Ultra in?

I really appreciate all your insights, they've helped me get a much better mental expectation about this puppy and I'm very excited. :)
