Need for Speed Underground Patch #4

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 01/08/2004 10:51 PM [ Print | 18 comment(s) ] · 10962 views

Gamer's Hell reports that Electronic Arts has released the fourth patch for Need for Speed Underground, the urban racing game by EA Black Box. Just like the previous updates, this patch is only available via the game auto-update feature (select 'check for update' in your start menu) or at this page. The patch "improves performance" and "fixes many cheats/trainers.

Patch 4?
Where?
On EA's FTP it's still patch 3:
ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/nfs-underground/
And this patch should have fixed this :
Fix UG Mode Completion, players can now change cars in UG mode once completed (allowing cars with TJ parts to be changed post completion)
- Fix many cheats/trainers
- Improved cheat detection functionality
- Fixes to rep points lost using NOS In bad latency situations
- Fixed some hardware issues
- Scenery Deinstancing - will help increase framerate
- Issue with black screen instead of movies in min. install if the user removes CD before movie starts playing
- Issue with micropauses on machines with low physical memory
- Issue where sometimes the game hangs if the CD is removed from Cdrom when going in/out of the game/FE.
- PC Registration - Server error after completing the survey.
- Various stability fixes for the game
- Windows Me Autodial on Startup
- Reverse / Distorted Manufacturer Vinyls On Golf And Lancer
- Graphical Corruption Using The Rear View Mirror

But no way, it's crap as usual with EA customer support...

I don't actually know. I haven't tried it yet as I'm waiting for a no-cd fix for it. I'm too lazy to put the CD-rom in the CD-drive :D

Meh, I've tried all these patchs and they all just make it perfom worse or no different. With every patch the "micro pauses" just get worse. I have like a sh*tload of games including games like Unreal 2003 and they all run well. NFSU Gold runs fine, but once I start patching, the micro pauses are REALLY annoying.

btw I can't get through to any of the ftp sites. I didn't think you could even download a patch. Thought you had to use the stupid ActiveX thing on the website?

I don't know anyone who doesn't use NOCD patches. Who wants to constantly be swapping cds in and out of their drive?

Okay, I've patched it but it still says 1.3.0 just before the main menu. That's normal?

Yeah, apparently they didn't change the version number with the latest patch.

As for the comment about using the activex control, you can still patch it manually. You just have to grab the rtpatch utility and download the patch from the ftp server. You can find the utility at some of the NFSU fan sites.

here's a funny thing:
I have nfs:u on original, and the game crashes if I try to start it with the play cd in the drive.
HOWEVER: it worked fine clonecd'd in daemon-tools... and nocd crack worked too after I found out what the filename of the ea logo was in the usa version (mine is euro).

GG EA! NICE WORK!

If you play in '1st person mode' those micro pauses as you call 'em might go away....of course, not everyone likes to play it that way...hope it helps dude.
