Our most famous rumour mill, The Inquirer, is spinning again. They claim to have learned exclusively that MSI and Gigabyte have begun negotiations about a possible fusion of the two companies:
MSI in the UK officially denied the possibility, when we asked for a comment earlier today.
The two companies have already had preliminary merger discussions but those conversations are continuing, we have learned today. Both MSI and Gigabyte are extremely big companies but they don't always compete head on in the same areas.
A merger would make some sense as Gigabyte is big in the channel and retail business and at selling ATI graphics cards, MSI is an Nvidia premium partner and resells to companies including Creative.

I know bigger usually means monopoly and bad, but in this case I think it would be a big benefit! I think a joint MSI/Gigabyte could breath some much needed life into both companies. MSI makes great gear, but Gigabyte has a better brandname. (IMHO) Not to mention I think they'd price things a bit more competetively for a while to secure their new position... ...it's a GREAT time to be a geek!!!!! |
