Techseekers.net reports that a new version of the Mozilla Thunderbird email client is out v0.2 RC for windows, Mac OSX and Linux. Download Here
Also in the Mozillazine forums some members have built CPU specific optmized builds of the Mozilla Firebird browser based on the nightly's* which give a nice speed boost to the browser.
One of the most recent builds is relatively bug free and optimized for Pentuim 4, AthlonXP, newer Durons, Pentium M and Celeron 1.7Ghz+ with SSE. Download Here

It seems there is some flaw with extensions in this build, since I'm not able to configure extensions (No problem with firebird 0.6.1). I feel the Firebird browser is much faster to startup than Mozilla. |

I too made the switch about a month or so back to Firebird. Usually once a day I'd run Adaware & find 5 or 6 references would be found regarding suspect cookies. Since changing to Firebird that has basically dropped to zero detections. Thanks to there being no further stand-alone IE versions (7.x+ that is, not IE SP2...) looks like I'll have zero reason to change either. |

Good links, I feel the SSE build is a bit faster! A note to anyone experiencing long startup times with any version of Mozilla: If you have Norton Anti-Virus, it might be set to scan .JS files, which it does really slowly on my PC. And Mozilla loads a lot of those when it launches. When I disabled that it cut the launch time for Firebird from 10s+ to 2-3s o/ |

Good to know I’m not the only Firebird convert. It’s really fast and has so many cool little features like the quick searches in the address bar, or if you type in keywords it will use Google to guess the web address. It all makes browsing easier and more productive. Thunderbird's getting better and better too. |
