More to the Microsoft power cord replacement than meets the eye?

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 02/24/2005 01:55 PM [ Print | 13 comment(s) ] · 6393 views

North American Xbox owners have already began to recieve their replacement power cords. These new cords are on the bulky side, and plastered with warning messages and instructions which appear to be made for the kind of person who would stick a fork inside a socket.

However, there appears to be some discussion as to the true intention of Microsoft. G0t M4xx 21 explains his theory:

The real problem is the Foxlink power supply. There have been numerous reports of "loose power connectors" in xboxes, and the cause of this is that the solder joints on the PSU have actually broken where the connector mounts to the board, which can result in the xbox not powering on, or possibly even sparks, smoke, and fire.
So, instead of taking the costly duty of recalling all older xboxes, what do they do? They give you a power cord with this huge GFI thing. This in no way will solve the problem, it is merely a bandaid. So, when your PSU sparks and shorts out, it just trips a switch instead of catching fire, but your xbox still doesn't work.

Trust MS to take the dodgy quick patch route. No fix, just a patch.

Though hopefully people with those older Xboxes are smart enough to do something about the connector now.

ffs can't anyone talk about ANYTHING microsoft without coming to the conclusion it's a comspiracy? Christ I just had the email about the power cable the other day and to be honest with you if it was gonna burn my house down, with the amount I use my xbox, it would have happened already.

Besides who posts this f'in shit? When I first started coming to W2S it was a good site full of interesting articles, a few years later and now look at it.

stfu you stupid monkey.

If they suddenly decide to replace thousands of cables it does seem strange... and Microsoft never does anything without having some secrecy behind it.

Reading some of these posts, sound like there are some nutters on the loose that need to be sectioned from Sociaty. Firstly, if you don't like how Microsoft does busniess, the products they have and the software they produces, then obviously don't use it. Same goes for this site, instead of being part of the problem, be part of a solution, otherwise there are other sites u can view.

IMO, quit bashing people/ entities for the sake it cos this sound like slander and the Layers would have a field day with you.

You must be a software programmer to conclude it is a patch ;)

Rather, it is a way to eliminate the hazard from power supplies which fail while minimizing repairs to only those units which fail. I'm sure the problem was thoroughly analyzed by acturaries, lawyers and electrical engineers and the result was that a circuit breaker cable achieved optimal loss reduction.

i dont know if you will believe me but, i was told by an insider that microsoft are spying on xbox owners, and have implanted a tiny" microphone" inside the cables so that they can "tape" all sounds going on around the machine. i think they call it market research.

Don't believe it. Microsoft's secretive disinformation unit created that rumour so people who revealed the truth about the cable would be written off as wackos. You have heard about clandestine power outlet networks haven't you? And subliminal messages in video games? It's all part of their nefarious scheme to create a drone army ready to do their bidding and take over the world!

You are probably one of the fanboys in teh Creative newsgroup whose noses are deep in their asses.
