TheCrucible.ca has just posted an article comparing several versions of windows, including the newly leaked SP2 Build 2082. Many benchmarks are included! Here's a snip.
With Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP Reloaded just around the corner, we thought we would bring you a little sneak peak at what new features, and what to expect from these new releases. We managed to wrangle up a copy of SP2 Build 2082. This will be one of the last interim builds before SP2 is released within the next two months.
With past events and release of Longhorn looming, (even though public release is still a ways away) Microsoft is now taking steps towards a more secure Windows environment. Unfortunately, it has taken much damage, time, and frustration before Microsoft finally recognized and responded to the problems in XP and previous versions of Windows software.

I hate people who do this, for more reasons than one, his review on "SP2" is so unbelievably BS that he should be smacked for doing it. Where should I start? 1. Service Pack 2 is currently in Beta. You may notice changes, that's the point. They might be good, they might be bad. In general I've updated to many updates over the past year (A heavy contributor of those updates to warp2search and neowin, until creamhackered decided to handle neowin's himself, fair enough), and all of them have been good updates. Stability improvements, kernel updates, etc. But hey, nonetheless, some might cause problems. This is the point of a beta test. 2. Everyone likes to look at graph lines. He's got the bars kicked up so a whole 10 MB/sec in a Sandra memory test lost looks like it's a HUGE loss, when in reality what is this? a 0.33% loss? (rough calculation). This is a practice I am DEEPLY against in benchmark reviews. He's repeated this over and over throughout his article. 3. I deeply do not support people who are going to whine and complain about beta service packs and software to be running that software in the first place. There is a good reason that the beta has been released only to selected testers, and there is a good reason that they do this MONTHS in advance to a release. Sure, if you want to run it, go for it. But I sincerely advise against it unless you know how computer software and hardware works in and out. |
