3DChips-fr.com reports if you connect yourselves to the site Windows Update, you will realize that Microsoft has just put online V5 which had been already accessible to beta testers for several weeks,
heralding the launching of the Service Pack 2 of Windows XP.

I've just gone to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and it redirects to v4. Maybe you should try things before you post them.. ffs |

The V5 site has been open to the public for a while actually. But if you do not have a registered key & you download there little Auto Updater (which it makes you do before you get to see any udates) it will prevent you from accessing the V4 site now. So. Use at your own risk. I haven't found a way to remove the V5 Auto Updater either. Used to just be able to plug in the V4 address & you would be fine. But I think the V5 Auto Updater now redirects you automatically back to the V5 site no matter how you try the V4 site. Pretty annoying really. |

i'd think that language and location matters too. it's not out in other languages yet, you your windows location would prolly have to be US or UK before you get v5. speculation. |

If you had automatic updating enabled then you should have received the control which redirects you to the v5 website already. If you had automatic updating disabled then you'll need to manually download the update. |

You can get to the v4 site by unregistering wuweb.dll with the following command: regsvr32 /u windowssystem32wuweb.dll Then go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and you'll be at the v4 site. I had to do this because the v5 updater still has some flaws in it. When I reported them I was told that Microsoft doesn't support beta software. This won't work for much longer since the v4 site will be going away in a few weeks. Then you'll need to reregister the wuweb.dll file: regsvr32 windowssystem32wuweb.dll |

I actually bought xp when it first came out, never again, every time I change some hardware the activation goes belly-up and I have to call to reactivate. The automated answering service *never* gives me a new key and forced me to talk to an operator who will always ask me if I am running the OS on more than 1 computer and then talks to me like she thinks I'm a criminal after I tell her no. |
