Microsoft is set to release its first mainstream consumer software application protected by product activation, in what could be a first step toward expanding use of the antipiracy technology. On Tuesday, Microsoft plans to officially launch Plus Digital Media Edition (DME), a $19.95 add-on pack for Windows XP. Microsoft has offered various versions of Plus since the release of Windows 95. But unlike earlier versions, Plus DME is protected by product activation, meaning that consumers will have to enter a 25-key code to install the software and then "activate" Plus DME over the Internet. The change comes as the Redmond, Wash.-based software titan also has been experimenting with new methods for distributing software...

I say the "activation" will be cracked in a matter of days. Just stating some facts here. |

Well, if it's anything like their "indestructible" Windows XP activation it'll be cracked in a matter of hours... |

Actually, to be honest, Nobody has ever successfully 'cracked' XP's activation without damaging files in some way. Sure, they've cut files up and things like that but they've *never* flawlessly 'cracked' it to fully function as an 'activated' copy without a file modification. So yes, it is still not completely 'fixed'... |

Except that they made the HUGE mistake of doing a corporate version of winxp, so anyone can just use this version with no activation and no crack LOL |

MagamiAKO: You are sort of right. However the bluelist key generator was developed and it is apparently impossible to tell the difference between a legit one and a keymaker generated one. Technically this has bypassed WPA without damaging any files, etc. I assume something like this will be done for DME, or a corp key will be leaked. |

MagamiAKO -- You are to kind. "Sort of" should read "Not at all" right... ;-) The Keygen for XP is a complete crack of WinXP activation. It actually generates valid codes that may, or may not be subsequently generated by Msoft! I have "heard" that the generated keys have actually prevented legit copies from installing (due to them already being registered!) -- not sure if thats' true, but it's possible. I have been using a "craked" key for almost 8-months, no problems, updated to sp1 with no probs, etc. So when anyone says they never truly "cracked" activation -- they're WRONG! |
