Microsoft on the future of DirectX

Posted by: [NT] on: 03/09/2007 01:29 PM [ Print | 2 comment(s) ] · 906 views

Microsoft just released their GDC 2007 presentations, with information on subjects such as XACT Audio, Direct3D10's basics and materials, LIVE on Windows, and tons more. What might be even more interesting to Beyond3D readers, however, is the first presentation on the list: "The Future of DirectX".
The first topic covered is DirectX 10.1 which, as previously thought, seems like a minor and logical evolution of DirectX 10.0; the new features include per-MRT blending modes, better MSAA control, Cube map arrays, more VS input/output attributes, and improved precision requirements. hopefully this era of graphics cards wont require new reivisions to add support for minor directx upgrade (10.1, 10.1a,b,c or whatever) and hoefully nvidia/ati only need to release updated drivers, if they where smart and made their chips flexible and more programmable.

By that, i mean i hope to see the current 8800 support 10.1 with a simple set of new drivers (and support 10.1 features), same goes for the r600, especially since its the late bloomer.
