Microsoft Discontinues SideWinder Peripherals

Posted by: [PM] on: 07/02/2003 03:33 PM [ Print | 8 comment(s) ] · 1050 views

Microsoft has informed GameSpot that it has discontinued the SideWinder line of gaming peripherals, which included joysticks, gamepads, racing wheels, and a voice communicator. A Microsoft representative said the decision is a result of the continued decline in sales of all PC game controllers and the fact that most PC games are designed specifically to be controlled with a mouse and keyboard. The most recent SideWinder products may still be available in retail stores in the coming months, but Microsoft has been working to discount products to help sales partners move remaining stock.

I happen to like my sidewinder usb gamepad. It is very responsive and has 10 buttons on it. Very good for gaming. Especially since I use console emulators.

i got two sidewinders, i have to say i think that they are awful value for money. Why cant someone make the ps2 joypads that cost 20 quid each compatible with pc and modern games as well as emus?

M$ sidewinder might be good, but when I needed a joystick me local Circuit City had sidewinders for $99 and the Saitek Cyborg Gold for $30...

...I've never used a joystick like it before, it's an absolute DREAM! :D

I heard the sidewinder was good, but it always struck me as just too pricey. :(

You can buy convertors quite cheap that allow you to use PS2 controllers on your PC.

Sorry - when I wrote, "this adapter is able to work with all major console controllers", I meant this DRIVER - PSXPAD.
