This says nothing about releasing DirectX 9. It says that beta 1, which is probably Release Candidate 1, will be released to the testers very soon. Who knows how many release candidates(betas) it will go through before a final release to the public. Probably quite a few considering DX9 is not expected to be release until later this year. This was confirmed with an ATI representative that said "When Microsoft releases DirectX 9, we will be there." |

I thought the latest rumors were indicating that M$ was going to skip dx9 and just release dx9.1? (Don't tell me the rumor mill is wrong!) BTW-So if a beta is released where's the download? |

There is honestly no reason to download a beta version of directx since there is no hardware to take advantage of the new features, nor is there any software. I did read that about the DX9.1, but again, that's rumor. This email appears to be the genuine article. As well, in an interview an ATI representative did mention that when DirectX9 is released, they will have a product for it. I am expecting it this summer. Nvidia is releasing the next-gen GPU come August, and ATI is also slated for their next video card come this summer as well. I'm quite sure this could coincide with a brand new DX release as well. Also, Microsoft is planning service pack 1 of XP for later this summer. Chances are all of these events are coinciding. It's going to be a big end of summer event for us game enthusiasts, especially from the sounds of that next Nvidia graphics chip. *drools*. From what I've read it's going to combine the technologies that Nvidia acquired from 3DFX. 3DFX acquired technology from Gigapixel to help their chips(wasn't to be seen until after the voodoo5). This ought to be one very nice card from Nvidia. |
