Microsoft Calls AMD X86-64 Operating System Anvil

Just spotted this @ The Inquirer.net:

We have absolute confirmation that there is an X86-64 version of Windows for the Hammer platform and rather suitably Microsoft has codenamed it Anvil. The source added that Microsoft is describing Anvil as bringing 64-bit computing to the masses, a phrase that will make Intel cross when it reads this article.

Microsoft is claiming that Anvil will still execute 32-bit apps with "excellent performance and compatibility".

"Ouch!"

(It was either that or some kind of "rock-n-hard place" reference...I'm JUST starting my second pot-o-coffee for the morning, I'll improve. ;) )

How ironic that AMD's new 64bit CPU is called "Hammer" and Microsoft's 64bit OS is called "Anvil". But don't think that MS is being biased in favor of AMD as Intel had their 64bit CPU out well before AMD for MS to test with. But AMD will have their consumer 64bit CPU out before Intel's consumer 64bit CPU.
