year? try years, emphasis on plural... since 98-99 or something. I don't remember any more when stuff got added or whatever, I just faintly remember hacking in drivers for some neogeo games back when ppl were still dumping neogeo games which weren't already supported and weren't brand new... (ie, before the kof2000 madness)

Youre right. I remember messing alot with Neo-Geo back in 99-2k, and back then mame was an alternative to the normal neogeo emulators. There where NG emulators that was better than mame back then, but now MAME got most of the features the other emulators have, such as DirectX support, filthering, savestates etc.
