Macrovision, a compagny that produces anti-copy mechanisms, is joining a lawsuit against 321 Studios because the compagny's copy tools(DVD X Copy) can also copy Macrovisions protection technology and therefore they find that its a violation of the DMCA(which forbids distribution of tools that break through digital copyright locks).
Quote:
"Macrovision is a company that manufactures an analogue copy-protection device that has absolutely nothing to do with anything of 321 Studio's products," 321 President Robert Moore said. "We are puzzled by Macrovision's press release today and disappointed that the company officers did not contact 321 Studios directly to clear up any misperceptions or confusion they have about our product."

"This lawsuit is based on a fundamental cornerstone of the American economic system--protection of intellectual capital," Whatever happened to 'good products' and 'the customer is always right'? Did they just get flung out the door because companies want to spend most of their money worrying about what people do with products they buy and take home? Give me a break. You know what's the worst of it? The fact that they manufacture earnings and numbers. They claim that this pirating drops their sales, but that's ONLY on the assumption that a person who pirated it was going to purchase it in the first place. There's a difference between "Should I spend $30 on this?" or "Hell it's free I"ll download it and check it out anyway." The local news ran a segment yesterday morning about movie ticket prices jumping up, and one of the more local theater owners (owns a very old and historic theater downtown that was renovated) even said that he doesn't understand why they're all jacking prices. His prices? $8/ticket Another local more chain theater(muvico) $9 A price they said in NY? $10.25!! $10.25 for a movie ticket, and they wonder why people pirate movies? Holy jeebus. I would say the ones pirating are the ones that would wait to rent the movie anyway rather than spend $30 on a whole DVD. Sure, renting is still paying for it, but it's $5 compared to $30. |

yeah movie tickets are like 15 or 18$ cdn in the end.. They added some entertainment fees and crap like that. I think less people are watching movies because they jacked up the price! |
