Slax is based on slackware distribution of linux. its a small livecd distro which pack quite a punch with such a small iso size.
For newbies, its a great way to get introduced to linux without the need to format/install a operating system they dont even know about. and For Hardcore users its a great distro to carry on mini-cd when the needs comes to log into systems where u dont hav time or access to load operating system on it.
Slax has released various flavours , targetting ppl with different choices. "New special SLAX versions released, based on SLAX 4.2.0! I've tried Redhat before as a start to linux but never really got in to it.. just too hard to get things working... but I came across this on w2s today and thought i'd give it a try. WOW! Burnt it to a cd-r from a 200mb ISO, ran it as a boot disc, and im in to a new world away from XP, but with the same functionality! Straight in to web browsing (1.5mbit ADSL on ethernet to router) with its Konqueror browser (extremely fast!), MSN and ICQ with its Kopete universal IM program, KPlayer as a winamp replacement to stream music, with an extremely attractive GUI! USB mouse and keyboard and sound worked straight away! I'm really blown away with this, I'll need to take it with me when I take my laptop Was I just blind and oblivious to the fantastic linux flavours out lately or is Slax really in a class of its own? |
