LCDs Images Delayed Compared to CRTs? Yes!

Some of the readers of Behardware.com have sent e-mails about a possible risk of delay of image displayed on LCD monitors compared to CRTs. The website checked this information and found that they were right!
All LCD monitors tested were from a few milliseconds to a couple of images late compared to CRTs. Of course there are consequences: in LAN games, those who have CRT monitors have advantages over other participants. This is also true for movies: sound comes before images and sometime a lot earlier?

Thought this was common knowledge. Even the best LCDs are still slightly behind a CRT. For gaming purposes, if your picky that is, a CRT is clearly better. If your extremly picky with colors, working for example with photos then a good CRT is also better. If you need to use lots of different resolutions, then a CRT is again to be prefered since they handle all resolutions very well. A LCD usally only has one resolution and then scales the image it gets to fit that native resolution. That makes lower resolutions blurry and reduces quality. Price is another big thing for CRTs. You get a whole lot more screen for a lot less money. The only clear two things LCDs have going for them is the slim size and the very stable image, easier on the eyes. That seems to be more then enough though juding by what most stores got in stock. It's all LCDs, some stores does not even have CRTs anymore (atleast that's how it's in Sweden). |
