Knights of Honor game removes DAEMON Tools DLL-file?

Thanks to CDFreaks for the Heads up!

Womble used our news submit to inform us that the game "Knights of Honor" by Black Sea Studios/Sunflower contains a copy-protection that seems to remove the file deamon.dll from our harddisks. This file is part of the DAEMON Tools software, an application with which you can emulate certain copy-protections. Futuremore, the game requires a "burning software clean" system. So what does this mean for us? Is it legal to force customers to uninstall software? What will come next?

I've never heard of this game but I do know Tiger Woods 2005 did not work without uninstalling software with drive emulation Simply disabling the emulated drive wasn't good enough.

Now no burning software. This is rediculous. Burning software and drive emulation is perfectly legal. It's time for some lawsutis to bring these turds back in line.

simple way around, just make the daemon.dll protected with a program so it cant be deleted. IE, use norton protected files. Or you can just reinstall daemon.

Shouldn't have to protect these files. No software should delete another programs files. The makers of D-Tools will have to sue, could be classed as some kind of sabotage maybe.

It just shows the way the software publishers are. Dont they realise that in most countries of the world a user is permitted to make 1 digital copy of any software.

Some companines seem to think US law is applicable all over the world. Its happening with torrent sites based in Europe atm. Not illegal in these countries yet companies are applying US law to justify thier pressure to close the sites.

maybe some "know how to do's" should remove some files off their hard drive just to show how annoying this can be.

Seriously! Someone, anyone!

Just say NO to these companies that use such tactics. Right now, Windows XP Pro x64 will not run games without some way of breaking this stupid copy protection scheme, even if you own the legit game.

To hell with anyone that uses these tactics. I will never ever buy any software from them.

Seems to me these companies are forgetting the ones they're fscking with are their PAYING customers... It seems a very strange and backwards notion to me to screw around with the ones that are actually giving them money; do they seriously believe they're stopping anyone intent on making pirate copies with these measures?

Pirates wouldn't bother to actually INSTALL the game to begin with, so sabotaging daemon tools is completely ineffective as a deterrence.

WIll they ever open their eyes? This copy protections only affect paying customers. Pirates have probably found a workaround ages ago....if they bothered copying what seems to be a crappy game that is.

Actually, I can play Tiger Woods 2005 with Daemon Tools installed and loaded, hell, even Alcohol 120% has it's own Virtual CD/DVD-Drive up and running.

Of course, I used a no-cd crack for TW 2005 and many other games to get rid of that awful CD juggling whenever I feel like playing a game.
