But it's not Linux. And sorry, Apple Computer fans, it's not the Mac.
The biggest rival to Windows sales is Windows itself--or rather pirated copies of the OS. And Microsoft is starting to put its foot down. In its most serious bid yet to reap revenue from those who've been getting Windows without payment to Microsoft, the company plans to require computer owners to verify that their copy of Windows is properly licensed before allowing them to download software from Microsoft's site. By mid-year, the once voluntary Windows Genuine Advantage program will become mandatory. Read on at ZdNet

Oh well, just time to move to linux then. I'm not giving microsoft another $300 for the 3rd time for yet another OS I can go get Linux RedHat off the shelves for $70, what makes you think I am going to pay $300 for your OS now Microsoft? Not to mention any updates you do make hackers are going to CRACK and make FREE on .torrent and IRC networks anyways. Really, your shooting yourself in the foot here, why not just lower the price on your OS and then people would definitly buy more copies? Somebody here said you could resale WinXP onto computers they installed for $90 america ($130 canadian) so why do I have to pay $300 to grab it off the shelf? I bought my firewall program because it was $49.95, I bought my 12 PS2 games for $59.95 each (Despite having a DVD burner), I bought my antivirus program for $39.95, I own 27 DVD movies for $35 each, what makes you think I won't buy WindowsXP for $50? I am not paying $300 for a piece of software, hardware yes, software no. |

Don't blame me for the double post, I waited 3 minutes after clicking ok, nothing was happening on the page, so I clicked ok again and it finally updated but it double posted. Way to go with the crappy message system W2S, maybe you should have a warning under ok saying "CLICK ONLY ONCE" if your message system can't spot clone posts |

The secret if a message board times out when you try to post is to reload the original page in another tab to check if your message has been posted or not. |

Well micro$oft pushed me to learn linux and they pushed me to use pirated copies of XP, I paid $200 for xp home full (not the upgrade) the day it was available, what a mistake that was. Their activation crap is worthless, I am not throwing away airtime on my phone to call them for an activation number every time I change a piece of hardware, it was utterly ridiculous, a tremendous waste of my time and money. Online activation never worked, the automated phone activation never worked so I was always forced to wait for some stupid ***** to come on the phone and treat me like I was a criminal because I couldn't get my (bought and paid for) copy of windows to activate. Oh, and where are the big price cuts? I thought activation was to curb piracy and then M$ can sell their software for much less $$, I thought Gates said it may get down to 40-50 bucks sometime in the near future? What a load of BS. Slowly but surely I learned linux, first I put it on my secondary computer in the basement, messed with it for a few months and then put it on my laptop with a dual boot of XP corp (the only way to use XP without trouble for me). Eventually linux made it to my main computer permanently, still running dual boot but for only a few games (CoD, U2XMP, Steam games etc). Once I am tired of these games microshaft will be gone from my home forever. |

The only way to get the price down to $40-50 is for Windows XP to become open source, something THE COURTS ORDERED OVER FOUR YEARS AGO. I swear every day I am hateing microsoft more and more. |
