Is Open Source and Free Software the Same?

Have you ever used the term open source and free software interchangeably? If yes, you are making a mistake. I find this quite annoying when people who call themselves GNU/Linux gurus doesn’t even know the differences between the two. Most of them consider them the same. Actually, Eric S. Raymond did an online survey with the two titles and found the following:
