InterVideo will be demonstrating its latest enhancement at the VIA Technology Forum, supporting 24/96 content that will bring DVD audio quality for a software DVD player to the PC. In order to demo this support, the WinDVD software will rely on VIA?s Envy line of controllers to provide 24-bit playback support. In order to emphasize their cooperation VIA has put an interview with InterVideo's Chief Technology Officer Honda Shing online.

Q: A big topic on everyone's mind these days is the issue of Digital Rights Management, what are your thoughts on the role of DRM for content that can be played on the PC. A: The reason this is a big issue is because technology companies and content providers have yet to deliver on a working model. If there were a good model in place, few people would be discussing this. We think that clearly, there is going to have to be some concessions on both sides. Traditionally, technology companies have focused on the rights of consumers and the content holders have focused on protecting copyrights; both sides are going to have to give a little and agree on some kind of copyright protection that does not limit the rights of consumers. The more time that passes between developing a working model, the more likely someone will create another Napster. VTF2002 will open in Taipei, Taiwan on 8th October 2002 with a compelling two-day program of keynote presentations and technology tracks given by senior executives of VIA, industry experts and high level representatives of industry partners, delivering in-depth market, technology and product information seminars following the themes of the Totally Connected Home, Enterprise and Mobility. VTF Taipei will be followed one week later by a one-day event in Beijing on 16th October. Source: VIA
