Halo Custom Edition Free

So what is Halo Custom Edition (HaloCE) you ask? Simply put, it is a new version of HaloPC that is free for all HaloPC owners. This unsupported version of HaloPC is a stand alone Gearbox Software release and is not supported by Microsoft.

So what is the purpose of HaloCE? HaloCE was created as a way for Gearbox to introduce a bunch of new features to HaloPC. The most important of which is the ability to play user created content.

Along with HaloCE we will also be releasing a set of tools, tutorials and source art which we call the Halo Editing Kit (HEK). This is a powerful package which will allow users to create their own custom content for HaloCE.

When released it is our hope that this new version of the game will become the first choice for all HaloPC players. We look forward to sharing more information with you and answering your questions about this exciting release.

would be cool if the halo engine wasn't slow as *****.

UT2004 and FarCry have way better graphics and a lot run faster.

The CE add-on will have a modified .exe and will also include better shader performance, so the game will run smoother once CE comes out.

I'm curious exactly how much this will increase performance. I've always thought of the PC Halo as being somewhat "flawed" because it does run so much slower than comparable games. Yes, I realize that not all effects/textures/etc. are the same, but in dealing with comparable games (FarCry, Call of Duty, UT 2004, etc.) the game runs quite slow. I had an Athlon 1900+ w/ a GeForce 3 Ti500 and the game ran like molasses at 800X600. I upgraded to a Radeon 9800 pro which did help a lot, but it still waddled. I now have a P4 3.2 and an Audigy 2 in the mix as well and while it finally runs pretty well in normal settings (1024X768X32, details up) again it still chugs with lots of activity and the mouse aim seems to suffer based upon activity as well.

I hope this update kicks ass! Halo will always be a great game, but I think a LOT of PC gamers got shut out by the performance issues.
