Microsoft has announced that the PC version of Halo 2 will only work on the new version of Windows called Vista. Just wait 24 hours and someone will likely have a Win XP/NO-CD 2-in-1 executable. There's NO reason this game shouldn't work on XP, other than for a selling point for Vista. There will be a patch, so if you're concerned...don't be. With that said, I'd suspect the free/cheap Vista public previews (the kind that last a full year) will be out well in time for this.

HELL YES. Either there will be alot of bitching and screaming for this to be on WinXP, or, nobody will buy it. Face it Bill, you see this as a way of selling Vista because NOBODY WOULD BUY IT ANYWAYS, we have NO REASON TOO. And claiming this game will have to run on "Newest DX10 hardware" is a complete and utter beyond joke, considering the old version runs fine on even OLDER hardware. So lets see, new OS, and.......the only reason to buy it is to get Halo 2 Great Bill, the people that will salivate themselves to death in ORDER to play Halo 2 will just pirate it AND Vista. Bravo retard, bravo.
