That review was so full of BS! I found it hard to read because of the repulsive orgy of positive adjectives. Sure, it might be really good, fantastic even, but that doesn't make me take this review any more seriously than that press release made earlier. I'm still bitter over Pc Gamer giving Summoner 67% three years ago... |

I agree with you. I think the game is cool but damn it's definitely I don't think worth all that. The biggest problem with that is that there are a lot of other games that DO deserve similar reviews. It's just that the reviewer doesn't quite understand the game that they're reviewing. It's obvious that this reviewer is heavily first-person-shooter biased. Not to say there's anything wrong with that, since I've grown up mostly on FPS games on the PC. It's just that the game doesn't quite match MY expectations of the refinements that I would quite give this game. An obvious example is through CS:S, in which you can shoot the LCD panels on the desks in cs_office. While this does add a great atmospheric and cool effect to the game (When you're firing off machine guns, papers and computers go flying, awesome!), the fact is the LCD breaks the same exact way every time. or the PC that looks strangely like a dell, when you shoot the PSU out, the PSU doesn't have any wires hanging from it, the case still has the wire sprite inside of it from the PSU. Or perhaps the plant models in cs_office that you can walk all the way through without any sort of collision. Or I think what annoys me the most is the fact that every object that has physics of sorts, you 'bounce' off of when you hit them--almost like they're all made of rubber. And finally, the bikes in cs_italy that at the very least don't even have rubber tires! They look rusted of sorts and look like a metal or stone kind of tint. WTF?! See, there's lots of little things that could've been done in that game that leads me to believe that HL2 lacks similar tiny modifications that make all the world of difference. Ahh well, we'll get there soon enough with video games. |
