Half-Life 2 & Doom 3 Only For Xbox?

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 12/08/2003 05:02 PM [ Print | 12 comment(s) ] · 4851 views

Just spotted this bit of info over at 3DGPU.com!

Kaptain Kangaroo posted a scan of PC Gamer in our forums, showing a page with some games on there, and one of them is Half-Life 2, with the logo "Only On Xbox" stamped on it. Now we shouldn't jump to conclusions, but I think a lot of people still remember how Microsoft snatched Halo from us PC gamers, and if they managed to somehow wrangle Half-Life 2 away from us, I can't begin to imagine how many upset and very disappointed people there will be all over the world.

I highly doubt this, because it means ATi's "Get in the game" program with Half Life 2 is a flop. And a lot of people purchased 9800XTs and 9600XTs simply for that reason, to get a free copy of HL2. It would just piss too many people off. In addition to that, think about a stripped geforce3 (XboX's gfx) running something that uses a lot of pixel shaders, unless the engine is completely rewritten. Anyway, I would not worry that much about it, prolly just another hoax.

The game is console-exclusive to the Xbox only, meaning that the PS2 and GameCube will not be getting HL2 or Doom 3. It has nothing to do with the PC, those games are first and foremost coming to the PC.

Of a likely hood that M$ could of bought the rights to these two games... I feel certain though that not in a million years neither id nor valve would sell out like that, even when you consider the deep pockets M$ has.

When it comes to HL2 it seems this website will report any half baked bullshit rumour.

how many times is this going to get reported before people finally grasp the "made-for-this-console-only" concept?

As an Xbox owner I would be pretty happy to see this game only on the XBox console and PC. But what happened to the news that nvidia hardware will have problems running HL 2 because nvidia hardware is in the XBox?

A lot of people still don't get the idea that PC and consoles are not considered the same. Even when us gamers do. To developers the PC isn't a console. We will still get HL2 and Doom3. Only GameCube and PS2 won't get it.

When it says "Only for Xbox" it doesn't include PC. If it did then there will be people with pitch forks and sticks with fire in front of MS head quaters.

why should xbox get it, practicly i think the gamecube (graphics wise) is more suited for the job. But there isnt anything to worry about because obviously PC's dont count as consoles and also there is a Halflife 2 beta (playable and ive played it) and ofcourse the doom 3 alpha and there was the Multi demo played at quakecon.
Oh, cant forget the so called "Source" that was leaked, thats also PC not console, lol. Plus the Ati/halflife 2 deal is a multimillion dollar deal and valve/vivendi would not be able to change a done deal like that and if they did they woul get their asses sued my ATi big time.
