Geforce FX 5900 Ultra - NV36 supports pixel shader 3.0

The Inquirer's mole has been a busy bee and has dug up some new rumours!

Some of Nvidia guys that know how things work have told our friends that NV36, Geforce FX 5900 Ultra already has support for pixel shader 3.0 but there is no any driver publicly available that will support it. µ The same source implied that when Nvidia tested pixel shader 3.0 internally, there was a hardware problem.

We reckon that Nvidia is practising for NV40 and who knows, if it fixes things NV38 could end up with pixel shader 3.0 support, highly unlikely but still possible.

besides the point, the fx wont have enough muscle to do ps3.0 properly, look at the problems the lineup has with ps2.0 alone...

Sure it can DO it, the bloody 5200 can DO PS2.0...it just does it at a couple of frames a second.

The hardware just isn't there for good PS 2.0 performance, the idea that PS 3.0 will work well on it is beyond laughable!

But it is interesting to see nVidia floating this story....I guess their new strategy will be to push the importance of PS 3.0 which the NV40 will support and pretend that PS 2.0 is of little importance and just a graphics world fad that you'll never even need.

Unless you wanna play Half-life 2 with the eye-candy, or something crazy like that....

Pfftt...

That's nothing, the Radeon 7000 supports PS6.5, but um, er, due to a 'hardware problem' it wont work. But honest, it would otherwise work...
