Gator renamed

Following the recent news of the compagny behind Gator suing everyone that called their product spyware(latest PC Pitstop), they have decided to change the name of Gator entirely. The name is now Claria, so be on the lookout for this piece of nasty software.

This is probably a step to mask the software further as Gator was becoming a rather well known advertisement product, and a increasing amount of people were taking steps against it.

You'll find a nice overview of gator history and the article on Cnet Maybe you find it interesting what kind if informations Gator aka Clara is collecting, so read more.

I found the following informations in their privacy policy, which is not easy to find on their website: Some of the Web pages viewed The amount of time spent at some Web sites Response to GAIN Ads Standard web log information (excluding IP Addresses) and system settings What software is on the personal computer First name, country, city, and five digit ZIP code Non-personally identifiable information on Web pages and forms Software usage characteristics and preferences You want to know more: Gator Privacy Policy Note from Warp2Search Staff: As you can see above, Gator is collecting some "interesting informations" about you, thatīs the reason, why we at Warp2Search does not allow advertisment from Gator / Clara or other companies which are collecting those datas from website users, and we ask you, if you see those ads on our website, please report immediatly in.

Thank you

Isn't that spyware by definition? Since when do you go suing people for exposing the truth?!? Oh yeah, I forgot... That's an everyday everyday event...

Can't Gator argue that you agree to install it when you click yes on those ridiculous EULAs?

They really should be made illegal.

Regardless of whatever name they choose, their product still sucks donkey balls.

It is a no good product that does nothing but secretly track what a user is doing. The problem is that they don't adequately assure the user what they're installing.

Although I had a friend who purposely installed bonzai buddy, she thought he was the "cutest little thing"..........heh.

Im sure the next ad-aware update or two will sort it out.
These ad companies are stupid though. These ads can totally swamp a PC forcing you to do something about it. If they were a bit more subtle more people would not try so hard to remove them.

Gator changed to CLARIA, not to CLARA.
