This is footage is made by CryTek (the people who brought us FarCry) on the DX10 API, shown at the PDC Microsoft Conference. It looks simply amazing!

Amazing.... Shakycam footage... ...why??? I find it amusing though how people on that forum assume they will have to ditch their existing video cards and upgrade to use DX10. What not-yet-invented video card where Crytek using exactly? |

You can run Far Cry on a DX8 card, but in the DX8 path. They're right in assuming they need a DX10 card to fully support everything DX10. |

To support EVEYTHING DX10 100%, yes, fair enough. But I don't think people need to ditch there 6800s and 8x0's because they can't run the few other things that Crytek weren't able demonstrate yet. |

you can emulate things .... they look like whats coming up but do run at very low speed ... you can render games in software mode which does not use GPU capabilities and runs very very slow but it is possible |

Well compare it to the first DX9 game that came out before Far Cry. It fully supports it, but don't try running at highest detail. FC2 will be a huge load of work for the first generation to support its technology. For the same reason people upgraded to see a great-looking game, they'll get DX10 card. No one needs to ditch their 6800, but that's still the same as playing FC in DX8. |
