First ATI X1800 Benchmark

Well ATI sure kept us waiting, but it will finally be introduced this month, the R520 architecture, the successor to the X800 family of graphics cards and a contender for the 3D graphics throne. But why wait for that introduction when you can have a sneak peak today? Normally we would?ve adhered to ATI?s NDA and published results the moment it expired. However this time around ATI decided to just not bother with us as they made it very clear that we did not make the cut, as we have written some articles about CrossFire, R520 and ATI?s financial situation that were apparently not appreciated. Hence we?ve not been briefed by ATI, nor did we sign an NDA, or have been invited to the launch event, so basically they decided to cut us off.
Unfortunately for ATI we have other sources to get detailed information from, for example the board partners that will be manufacturing and selling the majority of these new graphics cards. Obviously because we?re not bound by any NDA or other agreement with ATI we?ve worked hard to get you some benchmark results prior to the launch which is scheduled for the end of this month. To ATI we?d like to comment that it is a two-way street really, we?d like to be briefed about your products and have early access to them, if that requirement is met we will have no issues with signing and adhering to NDAs. By cutting us off however we?ve just been given a new incentive to work harder to break the news when we get a chance, in our usual no holds barred fashion.

First the newly discovered Crossfire limitation and now the disappointing R520 performance.... what is happening to ATI? No one wants to shell out 600$ for card which has the same or less performance than the 3 months old and 150$ cheaper 7800 GTX which also includes a fully working SLI architecture. Heck, even my 6800Ultra still looks great when comparing to ATI's upcoming next generation. |

Now if Nvidia releases 32 pipe 7800gtx ATI X1800 gets raped in every aspect. |

this is just LOL everyone willing to pay 400$ for a GPU has done this already and anyone doing this in the future will be really disappointed if the final results are close to this ... |

Yeah...looking pretty weak. Maybe having an high end SLI setup right now won't be worthless in 6 months after all. I just bought a 6800GT (AGP) last December and I can't see upgrading anything in the near future. My mainboard is a P4 3.2, but if I upgrade that I'll likely be stuck with PCIe. New video cards aren't much better...certainly not worth the money. Creative X-fi sounds nice on paper but is unholy expensive. I'm just going to stick to my current hardware and worry about the cost of consoles for now |

The whole thing is a hoax for a guy whos mad that ATI wont give him a card early for a review on launch day, not to mention even if what he said was true it was third party. Its sad that this many people fell for this... ATI's (Chris Hook) first reaction to this article was: " Fiction. I don't believe these numbers were ever run on a 520 ". A second response just came in: "This is a complete hoax - done with an OC'd X850, we think. Call our partners yourself and ask if they have R520XTs in house. The numbers aren't even close." |

by hinkle You mean 3 month old "news" from a B3D forum member, which may not really be news in the end? Who is this high falutin 3D review site, anyway...? What exactly have HWA reviewed or added to 3D of any consequence? Just sour grapes, they didn't make the grade... Their "info" is bogus. WRT ATI... they've missed half a product cycle... and they know it... |

They didn't someone ran benchmarks for them. Or that's how I understand it anyway. |
