Exclusive: Windows XP Kernel Update Build 1240 English-German

A few weeks ago a big Windows XP download was been sighted on DELL´s FTP server, the 47 MB download had fixed issues reported in KB 823583 , Availability of a Processor Driver to Support Mobile Processor Power Management Features on Mobile Intel Pentium 4M Processors with Hyper-Threading Technology
We were still wondering why this package was that big and [PM] started some investigation. And look what he found: A Windows XP Kernel Update, Build 1240, which is not reported in Microsoft Knowledge Base.

The Update we found contained the following files: ntoskrnl.exe - 1.886 KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrpamp.exe - 1.881KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrnlpa.exe - 1.909KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 ntkrnlmp.exe - 1.854KB - 06/30/2003 - 5.1.2600.1240 The inf - file shows us the way to http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=817027, which is not available. We have installed the files on a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading and a Athlon XP 2400+, both with WinXP Professional and the systems are still stable.
But we don´t know what the files are doing. It´s for shure that this Kernel Update is the newest at the moment, versions before are Build 1228 and Build 1224. For the people who would like to install and test the patch, we have a local mirror for you, powered by Mthn Warp2Search is not responsible for possible damage done to software or hardware after applying this patch. Heres a thought, it might be from Windows XP Service Pack 2, beta build 1240. Maybe that is wondering around the net too! |

817027 sounds familiar, but it wasn't related to kernel update build 1240. I think it had to do with a kernel update prior to even 1224, and they quickly pulled it to release update 1224. I'm a bit weary about that update, I'll see what I can dig up from Microsoft. |

The German Download Link is wrong or the the File behind isn´t updated. Afer Download the Filesize is 297 KB and is numbered with KB823583. For correction see your own Article. If you correct the german version i´ll testing this version - no problem |

As I type this, I am on the phone with Microsoft, obtaining this hotfix. Apparently there *IS* a hotfix at 817027 despite the KB not reporting about it. That's a bit odd, I would say. I'll have the English and German versions directly from Microsoft if W2S wishes to host these files instead, not just something packed from Dell's website  |

now the german downloadlink is fixed, i´ve downloaded and installed the Hotfix. And what i could tell all german freaks - already happened and run fine since 1 hour wihitout any mistake. I think the german folks can download and install the Hotfix |

Hey MagamiAKO, did you get the scoop from MS, is this kernel update worth installing for the average user? I guess we will find out when they update the knowledge base article anyway. |
