Examining Defects in the Firefox Code Base

Posted by: Newsfactory on: 09/08/2006 05:34 PM [ Print | 9 comment(s) ] · 2023 views

Using Klocwork?s K7 static analysis tool, I examined the large and complicated code base of the popular open source browser, Firefox.

Overall it is clear that Firefox is a very well written and high quality piece of software. Several builds were performed on the code, culminating in the final analysis of version 1.5.0.6. The analysis resulted in 655 defects and 71 potential security vulnerabilities.

Holy crap this guy has no life...seriously...if you think:

"Hmm...what should I do today? Oh I'll check the code of Firefox and see how clean it is!"

Then you have no life.

You'll find that MS already do this type of check on their software. There quality control/software testing is very sophisticated.

Hence they would have 600 less defects than Firefox.

MS aren't the best selling software company in the World for nothing.

I note that the FF fanboys are going at it again...... as soon as anything negative is said about FF they start dissing IE straight away.

Insecure children.......

LOL It wouldn't be so bad if you even knew what you were talking about. The bugs listed on the site you quote are security/decision process bugs. The software that caught the 600+ bugs in FF is software that catches bugs such as NULL referenced variables in the actual development environmnt.

No software can catch decision/security bugs of a program.... if they could we wouldn't need software developers at all!!! The program would be writing the software itself!!

I can back it up first hand ..... I worked at MS for 3 years as a developer.

Are all FF fanboys so intellectually challenged???

Ludicrous.........FFS
