Dual-core desktop CPU bout: AMD vs. Intel

You may recall a few months back when AMD took out full-page newspaper ads to challenge Intel to a dual-core server duel. Intel declined to take up AMD on its offer, but the challenge got us thinking?
what would the results of a dual-core desktop CPU fight look like? Many people equate Windows PCs with Intel Pentium processors (and soon will likely be doing the same with Macs), but we've seen dual-core CPU AMD systems power ahead of dual-core Intel-based PCs on more than one occasion.

...and I almost bought an Intel Dual Core chip too. I ended up getting an Athlon 64 x2 3800, Gigabyte K8N- Pro-SLI, (2) Geforce 7800 GT 256MB cards and I was able to keep my 2GB of DDR 400 RAM from my old system. |

Im not dissing AMD...im thinking about upgrading to AMD. But if you read the forums there have been alot of fried AMD processors. Some people even fried over 2 of them and still brag they are the best. Hmmm...I think speed and reliablity is best expecially if your building computers for people/businesses. I would take a slighty slower processor if it meant reliablity and non fustraction to my customers. Just my 2 cents. |

Yes, my xp1800+ does that quite often. Think its to do with the thermal sensor on my mobo. |
