DOOM III Screenshots - Scan - Demo Release News

Posted by: NewsFactory on: 07/11/2003 02:23 PM [ Print | 3 comment(s) ] · 23932 views

I was just over at Doomvision when I noticed some new DOOM III screenshots and a scan from this months PCGamer where they chat with ID's Tim Willits about how DOOM III is developing. Willits also comfirms the 4 man mutli-player mode "Last Man Standing" and Deathmatch! Preliminary DOOM III system requirements have been posted by some think tanks and finally they say that the DOOM III demo might be out some time in August (Quakecon?).

WTF is going on with those system requirements? They sound BS to me, how is a 9600Pro equivalent to a GF3Ti and not a GF4Ti? And if a 5800 and 5900 are together with the 9800P why isn't the 9700Pro with them too?
I'd reckon it would be min: GF3/8500/9000+, std: GF4/9500+ opt: 5800/5900/9700/9800+
Hmmm...

On further reading (and translating form german) it appears that this article is misleading. There is indeed an interview with Tim Willits, but the system requirements are not part of this interview. The system requirements are in a separate editorial on the web-site and are not official: [translation]: 'but present you here the unconfirmed hardware requirements'

"Minimum System Requirements" and "Recommended System Requirements" are two entirely different things.

I bet the minimum for Doom 3 is probably 1.2/1.4Ghz Athlon with a GF3 to probably run 640x480 with the lowest details, and scales accordingly.

Though technically the game will run on Geforce 2 hardware, but not so good.
