Well, I'll take the chance to explain now. DX9 and OpenGL are APIs, that is, Application Programming Interfaces. This means that they are graphical programming standards, so programmers only need to code games/apps or whatever to work with that standard instead of individual graphics cards. Now, DirectX is a Microsoft standard, and as such is available to Windows only, but OpenGL, as the name suggests, is an open standard. This means it can be ported to any OS, be it MacOS, Linux or whatever. Doom 3's engine is completely new. Just because it's OpenGL based it does not mean it has anything to do with Quake 3. Where did you get that information from? Or is it just because there's a 3 in both names so you assumed? Doom 3 happens to run better on nVidia cards because nVidia have always had better OpenGL drivers. When it comes to the 6800 cards, nVidia pretty much built their cards for Doom 3 - not vice versa as most people seem to think. So yeah, claim they've rehashed an old engine. You feel free, but you need to know this: You're wrong and you haven't got a clue. Read up some stuff on the Internet and you might eventually understand.
