Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test is a downloadable utility that can test your Broadband connection, identify any areas of concern, monitor performance over time and generate diagnostics you can use to send to your ISP. It's the ultimate connection monitoring and benchmarking tool, and is great for those who want to diagnose connection problems or are simply curious about their performance.

"Software piracy is a legitimate threat to software development" << not if you don't charge for the software. You know, I always based software on perceived potential value to the customer. This is what most companies do. For example, this is why Photoshop costs through the roof. With the amount of abilities that the true Photoshop CS can do is used by people who will probably make that money back somehow. This is why software like Maya or 3D Studio Max costs through the roof. It's also why Maya has a PLE that you can use for free to make game modifications. Why? Because they know that by using Maya to make game mods, you're not charging and therefore not making any money by using their software. In exchange, they get someone who is familiar with their package. Now why do I disagree with this guy's broadband speed test pricing? Because what is there to gain by making spiffy graphs of benchmarking your home internet connection? Is your ISP going to listen to you and help you get the MAXIMUM out of your line that you 'should" be getting? Of course not. Are you gaining anything more than what you're already paying for? Of course not. So where is the potential financial gain that this software can be used for? If nobody can capitalize off of using your software, you should not charge money for the software. There is simply *nothing* gained by using this broadband tester. Kazaa, Limewire, and whatever else is there...you ARE gaining something (even if illegally), therefore they can charge for the software--which usually isn't much. |

You can't "Magically" speed up your broadband. It just doesn't happen with simple 'Tweaks'. Factors like, poor line quality, busy servers, Internet traffic, overloaded exchange, etc.... all contribute to internet problems, and you aren't going to gain another 50k a second, by just tweaking. You'd be better off with simple tweaks that help browsing, for example. Like a RAM disk with your Temp browser cache in there. Tweaking your Max MTU + MSS. But these only help in browsing. Software like this, REALLY p*sses me off because a lot of people will be tempted by this. Much like software that claims to turn a modem into a broadband modem. You just can't beat a REAL BB modem. |

Its not worth £10.It doesnt do much extra if you do pay anyway! According to this prog my ping times are half whats expected, but my download speed is about 75% of expected. Strange because i regularly get 90% or more of my expected speed when i test with ADSL guides online tester. |

What a pile... The author could have allowed several free speed tests then asked for money. And, if not it should be made clear prior to downloading and wasting my time. I am sick of marketing... |
